Srikakulam, April 6 The Congress Government is committed to completing the pending irrigation projects in Andhra Pradesh, “in spite of all hurdles being created by the Opposition, and usher in an era free of droughts,” according to the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy .

He was speaking at Regulapadu village in Palasa mandal in Srikakulam district on Friday after laying the foundation stone for a reservoir across Mahendra Tanaya rivulet with a storage capacity of 2.6 tmc ft to be built at a cost of Rs 125 crore.

The Chief Minister claimed that his Government had taken up “Jala yagnam” for the all-round development of the State and that there was appreciation from several other States for these projects.

But the Opposition in the State was trying to stall the projects on some ground or the other. However, his Government would persist and complete the projects.

He said the farm loan waiver scheme announced by the Union Government would bring great relief to farmers across the country and in Andhra Pradesh farm loans to the extent of Rs 12,000 crore would be waived.

Farmers not covered under the scheme would also be given relief in some other form by his Government. Measures were being contemplated for the purpose, he added.
