Hyderabad, April 7

The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, laid the foundation stone for the Gurgaon-based Orient Craft Ltd’s fashion institute here on Monday.

“Currently, the textile park located in Gundla Pochampally, located on the outskirts of the city, employs around 8,000 people and the Government, in the next two to three years, expects around two lakh jobs to be created from the garments and textiles manufacturing units coming up here,” Dr Reddy said while addressing the gathering.

According to the officials of the Orient Craft Fashion Institute of Technology (OCFIT), around Rs 125 crore will be invested to set up the institute and the 23-acre facility would be ready by next year. The institute, however, would start functioning from a city facility this year.

“The institute will not only focus on classroom aspects of fashion education, but will also provide practical and hands-on exposure to the students in real time environs of an operating commercial factory,” Mr Sudhir Dhingra, Chairman of Orient Craft, said.

Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated a new block of Pokarna Ltd’s Apparel Division located in the textile park.
