Hyderabad, April 7 Giving a touch of the right colours to black and white cinema classics is their business. With the technology in hand, Goldstone Technologies has infused new life into the Kannada classic Satya Harischandra, while bagging the prized job for Dev Anand’s Guide.

The Hyderabad-based company has delivered the colourised version of Dr Rajkumar’s feature film to KCN Enterprises, which owns the global rights for the negatives.

The film starring the Kannada thespian, Dr Rajkumar, was released in 1965. This is the first film which the Media Division of Goldstone Technologies has restored, colourised and delivered, according to Mr C. Jagan Mohan, who heads it.

Apart from restoration and colourisation, the format of the movie has been converted to cinemascope from the existing 35 mm, using a special technology to make it suitable for modern theatres, he said.

In another development, the company has also won the rights to colour grading and restoring Guide, the Hindi film classic starring the evergreen hero, Dev Anand, and one of celluloid’s all time beauties, Waheeda Rehman.

The film, based on the late R.K. Narayan’s classic book of the same name, was released to critical acclaim and commercial success in 1965. It was directed by Vijay Anand, the actor/director brother of Dev Anand.

Goldstone Technologies has signed the agreement with Navketan International Films, the movie production company owned by Dev Anand, the company informed the stock exchanges.

Cannes screening

Meanwhile, Guide has been selected to be screened at Cannes film festival this year under the classic film category. Mr Travis Caddell, Managing Director of Goldstone Technologies Ltd, said, “That Navketan chose to come back to Goldstone for the second film from its library (Hum Dono was the first) is a testimony to our proven skills in this extremely sophisticated business”.
