Mixed trend in spot rubber

Kottayam, April 7 Spot rubber showed a mixed trend on Monday. RSS 4 improved to Rs 108 from Rs 107 a kg at Kottayam and Kochi as covering groups and purchase agents continued to procure the sparse arrivals.

According to market circles, the grade touched Rs 108.50 a kg in the morning session but failed to hold on probably due to buyer resistance. The May futures for RSS 3 closed marginally higher at ¥282.1 (Rs 109.89) against ¥281.5 a kg at TOCOM.

Pare gains

The rubber futures opened better but shed the gains in distant months later on NMCE. The April contract ended in the positive zone at Rs 106.50 (106.45) a kg while the May futures declined to Rs 107.50 (108.61), June to Rs 107.51 (109.35) and July to Rs 107.60 (109.15) per kg for RSS 4.The open interest was quoted as 4,826 (4,762) tonnes. with 1,854 (1,853) tonnes in April, 1,898 (1,844) tonnes in May, 730 (718) tonnes in June and 344 (279) tonnes in July. The volumes totalled 1,782 (818)tonnes.

Spot prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 108 (107); RSS-5: 105.50 (105.50); ungraded: 104 (103.25); ISNR 20: 104 (104) and latex 60 per cent: 72 (72).
