Pune, April 7 About 34 lakh small and marginal farmers and 23 lakh other farmers in Maharashtra are expected to benefit from the debt waiver proposed by the Central Government during this year’s Budget.

This would mean a total outflow of Rs 13,497 crore, Mr J.R. Sarangal, Chief General Manager, Nabard said here on Thursday. Of this, Rs 7,891 crore will be allotted for the small and marginal farmers and about Rs 5,606 crore for the other farmers.

Giving details about Nabard, he said the bank had disbursed Rs 2,777.09 crore loans in the State during 2007-08 for crop loans, investment loans and co-finance as also loans to Government for rural infrastructure.

This is higher by about Rs 617.76 crore compared to the disbursement made at Rs 2,159.33 crore during the previous year, registering a growth of 28.61 per cent.

Credit projection

He said it has projected a credit flow of Rs 26,269 crore for the State for 2008-09 as against Rs 20,972 crore for 2007-08. Mr Sarangal said it had provided crop loan refinance of Rs 1,752.09 crore to co-operative banks at three per cent, in line with the Government of India policy of providing crop loans to farmers at seven per cent.

The Regional Rural Banks were also provided with concessional refinance of Rs 50.34 crore at 4.5 per cent in respect of their crop loans.

The State, he noted, during 2007-08 had continued with its scheme of subsidising crop loans disbursed by banks at one per cent to enable farmers avail crop loans at six per cent interest rate.

Under the Liquidity Support Scheme, Rs 53.44 crore was disbursed to MSCB on behalf of DCCBs.

The disbursement under crop loan during 2007-08 touched a level of Rs 7,149 crore as against a target of Rs 9,314 crore as on December 31, 2007, recording 76.76 per cent.
