‘Taking employees to next level a challenge to cos’

Coimbatore, April 7 The challenge for most IT companies today is in taking the employee working within the system to the next level, says Mr Balaji Chandrakumar, Vice-President (Learning Solutions), Expertus Infotech.

Mr Chandrakumar and Mr Srini Krishnamurthi, President and Managing Director (Global Operations), Expertus Infotech, in an informal chat with Business Line said “the finishing school will guide students to find a place in the corporate world. It does not, however, solve the issue of skills, ability, of getting employee move to the next level; and these are issues of great and immediate concern.”

“While most large organisations have their own training capability, some hire technical trainers to nurture technical talent. Getting experts in specific subjects to impart training is yet another challenge. IT companies have started to move towards ‘train the trainers’ programme,” Mr Krishnamurthi said and pointed out that the issue was beyond training.

“Corporates find it difficult to release senior people (who play a critical role) even for a day to take up such training. So leadership programmes should not only have flexibility but also impart critical components that have a direct impact on the executive’s role,” he said.

“We use a blended model,” Mr Chandrakumar said and explained how Expertus used an eLearning module to educate and later reinforce lessons in the classroom.

How can this be measured? “There is great demand to develop methodologies that bring high impact within a short duration. Clients do not measure because the cost of measurement is far more expensive than the training programme itself. We measure some modules. Ultimately if we are able to show positive change in behaviour post the training, it reveals the effectiveness of the training,” he said.
