Farm programme in TN

The National Agricultural Development Programme is to be implemented in nine districts in the State, including Ramanthapuram, according to District Collector Mr R. Kirloshkumar. About Rs.185 crore has been allotted for the implementation of the programme during 2008-09 and the other districts included are Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnakiri, Namakkal, Perambalur, Dindigul, Coimbatore and Villupuram. Bringing more fields under precision farming is the major component of the prog ramme. A subsidy of 50 per cent, not exceeding Rs.40,000 per hectare is offered to farmers for taking to precision farming. Assistance will also be offered to establish agri clinic and micro soil testing laboratories at a cost of Rs 6 lakh apiece with a back-ended subsidy of 50 per cent. Farm machineries are to be distributed to farmers with a subsidy ranging between 25 and 50 percent, he said, the sources said. —
