Kolkata, April 8 Rourkela Steel Plant ended the fiscal year 2007-08 with an all-time best production of hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel.

In 2007-08, the unit of SAIL produced 2.229 million tonnes of hot metal, 2.093 mt of crude steel and 2.068 mt of saleable steel. This represented a capacity utilisation of 114 per cent in hot metal, 110 per cent in crude steel and 124 per cent in saleable steel.

According to a company release, niche products from finishing mills achieved more than 100 per cent of what was pegged in RSP’s annual performance plan.

Production of plates from plate mill stood at 468,820 tonnes, representing a capacity utilisation of 163 per cent, hot rolled plates at 315,323 tonnes (341 per cent), hot rolled coils for sale stood at 763,105 tonnes (170 per cent), and CNRO production from silicon steel mill at 80,689 tonnes (109 per cent).
