Larsen & Toubro bags four orders worth Rs 1,687 cr

Mumbai, April 8 Larsen & Toubro Ltd has bagged four orders totalling Rs 1,687 crore for commissioning of a water supply project, sinter plant, cold roll mill and coal handling plant.

The orders were from the Rajasthan Government, Bhushan Steel, Bokaro Steel and the Damodar Valley Corporation, an L&T release said.

For 2007-08, L&T is looking at a 35 per cent increase in orders over the previous year level of Rs 40,000 crore and that till December 31 it was close to Rs 50,000 crore. L&T secured a Rs 5,500-crore order last year from the Mumbai international airport authorities.

The Rajasthan Government’s Public Health Department has awarded a Rs 635-crore order for design, build, supply and commissioning of Barmer Water Supply project.

The work involves laying a 220-km pipeline, designing and building a 172-MLD treatment plant and raw water reservoirs that include supply and installation of pumping machinery, electrical, instrumentation and automation control systems. The project is scheduled for completion in 18 months. It is to supply safe drinking water to Jaisalmer and Barmer, including Army bases there.

The order from Bhushan Steel, secured in consortium with Outotec GmbH is for a Rs 555-crore sinter plant at Meramandali, Orissa. To be commissioned in 30 months, the plant will have a production capacity of 4.60 million tonnes a year.

Outotec’s work would cover basic engineering, supply of imported proprietary and special equipment and technical services, while L&T would provide detailed engineering and supply of indigenous mechanical equipment, besides electrical and instrumentation works that include complete site services, comprising civil and structural. L&T’s scope of work in the project is valued at Rs 450 crore.

L&T construction division also got a Rs 272 crore order from Bokaro Steel plant for civil works of a cold roll mill and is to be completed in 24 months.

The mill complex is part of SAIL’s capacity expansion at Bokaro to seven mt a year.

The division has secured a turnkey contract worth Rs 330 crore from the Damodar Valley Corporation for a coal handling plant in Koderma Thermal Power Project Stage-1 (2 x 500 MW) in Jharkhand. This green field project is scheduled for completion in 30 months.
