Tea exporters earn Rs 22 cr less

P.S. Sundar

Coonoor, April 8

Tea exporters have earned Rs 22 crore less in the first two months of 2008 over last year, an analysis of the latest data available with the Tea Board indicates.

Exports which had taken a beating last year continue to slide in 2008. The overall earnings have fallen despite the price fetched rising because volume shipped has declined sharply.

Exporters received an average price of Rs 95.13 a kg in January and February this year against Rs 90.62 last year, but this pulled down the intake by the importers.
