Spot rubber stays steady

Aravindan

Kottayam, April 10 Spot rubber rates were almost steady on Thursday except for sheet rubber which weakened to Rs 106.50 from Rs 107 and Rs 106.75 a kg respectively at Kottayam and Kochi. The market showed some resistance at lower levels as sellers stayed back but failed to improve lacking support from the major consuming sectors. The transactions were narrow. RSS 3 slipped at its May futures to ¥276.3 (Rs 110.06) from ¥278.3 a kg at TOCOM. The grade moved down by 30 paise to Rs 112.32 a kg at Bangkok.

Futures better

The rubber futures turned better probably due to a technical bounce back on NMCE. The April contract improved to Rs 105.30 (105.14), May to Rs 107.19(106.07), June to Rs 108.10 (106.70) and July to Rs 108.15 (106.68) per kg for RSS 4. The open interest was 4,674 (4,677) tonnes while the volumes totalled 1,136 (1,153) tonnes. The outstanding positions were 1,688 (1,762) tonnes in April, 1,912 (1,871) tonnes in May, 710 (704) tonnes in June and 364 (340) tonnes in July.
