Railways South Central Rlys posts 18.9% growth in earnings Our Bureau Hyderabad, April 11 The South Central Railway (SCR) has achieved apportioned earnings of Rs 6,830 crore in 2007-08 as against Rs 5,745.66 crore last year, showing a growth of 18.9 per cent. The zone achieved an operating ratio (earnings vs expenditure) of 67.71 per cent in the year, the best for the zone. “Financial discipline helped us cut expenditure, resulting in the better operating ratio,” Mr H.K. Padhee, General Manager of SCR, said. Freight loadingAddressing a press conference here , he said the zone recorded an originating freight loading of 70.17 million tonnes (mt) as against 62.23 mt last year, registering a growth of 12.8 per cent. Earnings from freight segment stood at Rs 3,418 crore as against Rs 2,810 crore last year, showing an increase of 21.6 per cent. The target set by the Railway Board was Rs 3,330 crore. Contribution from cement topped the list of commodities with a total loading of 29.59 mt as against last year’s 19.87 mt. Coal contributed 29.14 mt (25.39 mt), followed by foodgrains with 6.78 mt (5.56 mt). The passenger traffic reached 276.10 million as against 243.66 million last year. World class stationThe zone has formed a special team to coordinate with the consultants who were supposed to study various issues relating to upgrading the Secunderabad Railway Station into a world-class one.
