Veta plans to expand corporate training vertical

D. Murali

Chennai, April 11 Veta is planning to expand its corporate training vertical this fiscal, said Mr K.V. Rajan, the company’s Executive Director. “These days, we find an increasing number of employers seeking the need for workplace English to serve customers better, which is why we decided to strengthen our corporate training vertical,” he said, speaking to Business Line.

The focus in corporate training programme will be on addressing the specific needs of the employer, such as business etiquette, effective use of language, personality development and stress management.

“In the case of a client organisation, the Vetacorp training begins right at the induction stage and moves on to the operational levels. The assignment includes even the language training of the parking attendant to assist the visitors in parking their vehicles,” explains Mr Rajan.

“At the senior management level, our training includes modules on boardroom conduct, presentation skills, and negotiation techniques.”

With work environments being diverse, it is necessary for employees to speak ‘global’ English rather than the regionalised English, he observes. “Global English is what is understood widely by all ethnic groups. Since it is accent-free, such a language delivery is all the more appropriate in service sectors such as BPOs and financial institutions.”

Veta, which began its operations as Vivekananda Institute in 1981, went through a re-branding exercise in 2003-04. It has more than 200 centres in the country, and one in Singapore, started earlier this year.

“This fiscal, we will be opening our centres in Assam and other States in the North-East. Between now and 2010, we will be increasing the number of centres from 203 to 500,” says Mr Rajan. “We are planning to have franchisees in Singapore, and master-franchisees in Malaysia, Indonesia and Sri Lanka. There are pending enquiries from Vietnam and Thailand.”
