VR Complex to offer online ticket booking facility

L.N. Revathy

Coimbatore, April 11 VR Complex, which houses Central and Kanakadhara theatres here, has not merely stopped with giving a facelift to its interiors but also plans to offer Web-based bookings for its shows from April 18.

Its proprietor Mr B. Sreeraj told Business Line that the e-ticket facility would offer cinema goers the convenience of booking tickets for particular show from their home/office or cybercafé.

“They need not go back disappointed. They would just have to log on to www.thecentralcinemas.com, register and book tickets. If the prospective viewer is unable to take a print out of the e-ticket, he can produce the confirmation number generated by the system along with an identity proof and proceed to view the show. We are proposing an SMS (via the mobile) confirmation as well,” he said.

For better ambience and in striving to make cinema viewing on the big screen more enjoyable, Mr Sreeraj did a major overhaul of the interiors and replaced the existing seats with multiplex seats such as rockers and PVR.

Future Plan

The cost of revamp is said to be around Rs 35 lakh.

“Banks do not extend finance support for renovating the interiors of cinema houses,” he said when asked about the source of fund.

“The complex would house three additional mini-auditoriums with seating capacity of 250 each. The mini-theatres would become operational before the end of 2009,” he said and added that there was a proposal to open a food court as well. He however was tight-lipped about the cost of the proposed plan.

Mr Sreeraj is eventually preparing to screen English, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam movies in each of these auditoriums. According to him, Central theatre was always known for screening the best English films. “We started the renovation work in 2001. It just got over. During this period, hardly any theatre here screened an English movie. We plan to revive this market,” he said.
