Hotels States - Andhra Pradesh Soon, top hotels’ bars may stay open past midnight To begin with, the Government might allow only four- and five-star hotels. Hotels in the other categories need to wait for some more time. K.V. Kurmanath Hyderabad, April 13 Pleas of hoteliers could well be answered, finally. If a Government plan comes through, hoteliers in the twin cities can open bars through midnight and into the wee hours. The Government departments concerned are preparing ‘papers’, allowing the hospitality sector to keep the bars open past midnight, sources told Business Line. There is, however, a catch. Not all hotels can open their bars. “To begin with, the Government might allow only four- and five-star hotels,” sources said. Hotels in the other categories need to wait for some more time. The hospitality sector has been asking the Government for the permission to open the bars. “We get customers from all over the world. Some of them are used to taking liquor late in the night after finishing their days’ work. We find it difficult to explain to them that bars are not open after a certain time in the night,” a hotelier pointed out. “This will put off the foreign tourists,” he felt. But it is not an easy task for the Government. “It is not easy for us to relax at one go. We have to weigh several options, keeping in mind sensibilities, before relaxing norms,” the sources said.
