HP India to roll out biz notebooks

V. Rishi Kumar

Hyderabad, April 14 Hewlett Packard India is set to launch a wide range of business notebooks in the market customised for different requirements and local conditions.

These span light weight 9-inch notebook PCs to 17-inch versatile PC-cum-entertainment devices and rugged tablet PCs, with handwriting features.

The Country Manager of HP India, Mr Anurag Arora, said that the market for notebooks is poised for significant growth across different types of users, students and professionals, each demanding a very specific product.

Mr Arora, who was in Hyderabad on Friday told Business Line that in India, notebook PCs recorded more than 100 per cent growth year on year in 2007 and this trend is likely to continue. Going by the current pattern of notebook PC purchase in the country, which is over six lakh per quarter, this is likely to go much higher by the fourth quarter this year.

The overall notebook sales are likely to inch towards 2.7 to 3 million mark this year.

HP India’s focus now is on ensuring that every category of user gets a notebook of his choice be it light weight heavy duty ones for mobile professionals or bigger screen (17 inch) models for students, which has a lot of entertainment features, or the tablet PCs for professionals such as architects, doctors and journalists, he said.

Focus areas

One of the key focus areas of the company has been to expand its support centres and offer users hassle-free ownership experience.

As a part of this move, HP is set to add 20 more cities in the next six months to its presence in over 100 cities, he said.
