Banks to lend Rs 3,449 cr


Total bank deposits in Thiruva-nanthapuram district stood at Rs 17,510 crore and advances at Rs 12,187 crore. The credit deposit ratio was at 70 per cent.

Banks will lend Rs 3,449 crore to the priority sector in Thiruvananthapuram district during the current year.

As per the district credit plan approved by the District Level Review Committee convened by Indian Overseas Bank, the lead bank in the district, on Tuesday, an amount of Rs 1,428.41 crore has been earmarked for the agriculture sector, Rs 205.91 crore for non-farm sector and Rs 1,814.49 crore for the services sector.

The year’s credit plan, in which the commercial banks, cooperative institutions, regional rural banks and Kerala Financial Corporation will participate, marks in increase in outlay by Rs 569.15 crore (20 per cent) over the previous year, according to Mr. Abraham Shaji John, Lead District Manager.

The review meeting was informed that priority credit disbursements in the district by banks in the first nine months of 2007-08 crossed Rs 1,844.91 crore as against an annual target of Rs 2,879.65 crore.

The agricultural sector was disbursed Rs 910.46 crore (76 per cent of the target), services sector Rs 831.20 crore (56 per cent) and non-farm sector Rs 103.25 crore (54 per cent).

Total bank deposits in the district stood at Rs 17,510 crore and advances at Rs 12,187 crore.

The credit deposit ratio was at 70 per cent.

While around 2,500 families were assisted under SGSY scheme in 12 blocks of the district, 3,248 applications were sanctioned under the PMRY scheme.

Besides, more than 3,390 proposals under the ‘Bhavanasree’ programme of the Kudumbasree Mission had been sanctioned.

Under SHG financing, 16,999 groups were assisted with Rs 93.34 crore, while under the Kisan Credit Card scheme, an amount of Rs 467.56 crore was disbursed to 2.66 lakh families.
