Chennai, April 16 The cover story in a recent edition of The Week titled Hot Jobs 2008 says that India will create over 10.25 lakh new jobs and there is opportunity for every graduate passing out from college to join one of several booming industries such as the BPO sector, IT and ITeS, real estate, retail, pharma and manufacturing.

According to Mr Ashfaq Khan Ghori from Nuveda Learning Pvt Ltd, the motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar’s quote on attitude is relevant in today’s scenario: “It’s your attitude, not your aptitude, that will determine your altitude.”

Mr Ghori was addressing students of the Abdul Hakim College of Engineering, Melvishaaram.

The meet, organised as part of the BL Club lecture series, revolved around the ‘A’ or ‘attitude’ factor for success.

Quizzing the students on the one common factor linking famous personalities such as Shah Rukh Khan, Kiran Bedi, Dhirubhai Ambani and Indra Nooyi, he emphasised the importance of attitude, which could be defined as: ‘The quality and direction of our thoughts with which we approach a situation.’

He went on to add that attitude could be both positive and negative.

For instance, while names such as Shiv Nadar (of HCL) had gained prominence, so had names such as Abdul Telgi, and Charles Sobhraj.

However, the attitude of the last two personalities was negative.

He went on to ask the students how we acquire our attitudes. “Are we born with it or can we cultivate an attitude?”

He told the story of Ramu, a seven-year-old boy, who was apparently raised by wolves after he disappeared six years ago.

The boy, who was recently discovered at Lucknow, gnawed at meat the way wolves would do. Similarly, a tiger brought up domestically like a pet cat behaves like one.

Through these examples, he sought to convey that it was our environment that shaped our attitude.

According to him, for success, one needed skills, knowledge and attitude. Just as a person with skills alone could not be assured of success, so also a person with knowledge alone could not be successful.

Generally, people with some skills and knowledge and an abundance of positive attitude were truly successful.
