‘Canada keen on more tie-ups’

Our Bureau

New Delhi, April 17 The Canadian Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ms Helen Guergis, said that her country aims to create new connections in India in sectors such as agriculture, mining, life sciences, information and communication technology, financial services and infrastructure.

“Our message is simple. Canada can help India as it continues its incredible economic ascent,” Ms Guergis said.

The Secretary of State also called on India to look at opportunities in Canada. “We hope to see many more Canadian companies becoming active in the Indian market and a greater presence of Indian companies in Canada,” she said. Talking about growing trade relations between the two countries, Ms Guergis said that last year trade between India and Canada reached an all-time record of $ 3.74 billion.

“This upward trend is continuing with a 59 per cent increase in Canadian exports this past January alone,” the Secretary said.
