Kochi, April 17

The Kerala PWD Minister, Mr Mons Joseph, on Thursday inaugurated the new digital orthopaedic operation theatre at the Lakeshore Hospital and Research centre here. The facility is India’s first digitally integrated orthopaedic theatre with guided airflow system, which reduces the chance of infection in patients and improves efficiency in complex surgeries, Dr Jacob Varughese, Chief of Orthopaedics and Head Division of Joint Replacement surgery and sport injuries, sai d. The possibility of infection of bone is extremely high in a joint operation which can lead to serious complications for patients undergoing joint operation, he said. The new theatre would be used for a range of elective orthopaedic surgeries, but is specifically aimed at joint replacement surgery. –
