Red Hat upbeat on growth

Coimbatore, April 17 Provider of Linux and open source technology, Red Hat is optimistic about the growth prospects within the open source ecosystem.

It’s Vice-President (Corporate Marketing), Mr Michael Chen, had during his brief visit to India told Business Line that marketing and brand awareness did not take the company to the top slot, “reality did”.

Red Hat, which turned 15 in March, was the only software company among the listed companies in the US to record 20 per cent growth in net profit. The overall business grew by 35 per cent year-on-year in the last 10 years, Mr Chen said and hailed the promise of the open source model with particular reference to innovation.

“Asked if Red Hat was looking to acquire any company in India, Mr Chen said “We are constantly on the look out and the focus would be around infrastructure software companies, for that is where most of our acquisitions happen. We are working with partners.”
