Chennai, April 19 Come June 3, Cathay Pacific will connect Chennai to Hong Kong. The airline will operate four flights out of Chennai — Tuesdays, Thursdays and the weekends.

The airline will press an Airbus (A-330-300) aircraft into service. According to Mr Tom Wright, General Manager, Cathay Pacific, there will be 44 business class seats and 267 economy.

Bookings have started and the patronage is very encouraging, Mr Wright told Business Line. However, he said Cathay Pacific would want to increase the frequencies of flights out of Chennai.

Biz, pleasure trips

Mr Wright said that passengers from Chennai usually travelled via Hong Kong to destinations in Japan, China and Korea. However, in the recent times, many business travellers needed to go to Hong Kong itself. Furthermore, Hong Kong is becoming a tourist destination, thanks to the opening up of Disneyland, and many Indian travellers are planning pleasure trips to Hong Kong, he said.
