New Products & Services Logistics - Airlines States - Tamil Nadu Kingfisher launches daily Tiruchi-Chennai service
New flight: Mr N. Siva, MP, the Tiruchi Airport Director, Mr S. Sreekumar, and Mr V. Raja, Regional Vice-President (Sales), South India and South East Asia, Kingfisher Airlines Ltd, at the Tiruchi airport. — Our Bureau Tiruchi, April 21 Kingfisher Airlines on Sunday launched daily services on the Chennai-Tiruchi-Chennai sector. The airline would deploy an ATR-72 aircraft in this sector. The Chennai-Tiruchi flight (IT2911) would depart from Chennai at 12.45 p.m. and arrive here at 1.55 p.m. In the return direction, flight (IT 2912) would leave Tiruchi at 2.20 p.m. and reach Chennai at 3.30 p.m. The fare on the sector would be Rs 3,274, inclusive of applicable fees, taxes and surcharge. Mr N. Siva, Rajya Sabha Member, along with the Airport Director, Mr S. Sreekumar, received the first flight. Mr Siva welcomed the introduction of the service and observed that Tiruchi was all set for rapid industrial growth over the next few years. Mr V. Raja, Regional Vice-President (Sales), South India and South East Asia, Kingfisher Airlines Ltd, said the airlines was planning to tie up with the State Tourism Department to offer package tours to heritage and pilgrimage centres in and around Tiruchi. “We would be talking to the Tourism Department soon on a tie-up to offer package tours to heritage centres and pilgrimage destinations such Srirangam, Velankanni, Thanjavur and Navagraha kshetras,” he said. The airline viewed the Tiruchi market as one with growth potential as there has been a constant demand from the local industry for air connectivity to Chennai and beyond. “Besides, corporate flyers, we expect our flights to cater to tourists since the city is very popular with pilgrims of all faiths,” Mr Vijay Mallya, Chairman and CEO, Kingfisher Airlines, said in a statement released on the occasion. The launch of the Chennai-Tiruchi-Chennai service was a sort of re-entry for the airline. It had previously introduced a service on Bangalore-Tiruchi-Bangalore sector. The service remained suspended for some time but was resumed recently by Deccan. Tiruchi was the 40th destination for the airline.
