Chip design services market seen at $7.4 b

Bangalore, April 22 The Indian semiconductor and embedded design services industry is expected to cross $7.37 billion in 2008, said a report published by the Indian Semiconductor Association and IDC (India) Ltd.

The report entitled ‘India semiconductor and embedded design service industry (2007-2010): Market, Technology and Ecosystem Analysis’ predicted the embedded software market to touch $9 billion by 2010, compared with $5 billion in 2007.

The VLSI design services market would be about $1.38 billion by 2010, compared with $766.2 million in 2007, the report said.

The hardware/board design services market is expected at about $680 million by 2010, the report added.

The report said the VLSI design sector would employ about 23,525 people by 2010, compared with 13,900 in 2007.

The embedded software sector would employ about 179,824 by 2010, up from 107,000 in 2007. About 15,482 people would be employed by the hardware/board design sector, the report added.
