Visakhapatnam, April 23 The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, inaugurated the new building complex of the Indo-German Institute of Advanced Technology (IGIAT) in the industrial estate here on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister expressed the hope that the institute, a joint venture of the Federal Republic of Germany, the State Government and Gayatri Vidya Parishad here, would be of great help to the students and other job-seekers to get employment in the industries.

The need for such an institute had long been felt to impart the requisite technical skills to students to enhance their employability in the industry.

He unveiled a plaque in the presence of Mr Roland Friedrich Herrmann, Consul-General of Germany, to mark the inauguration.

He went round the apparel training division in the institute, accompanied by Mr G. Kumaraswamy Reddy, Chairman of the IGIAT, and handed over job offer letters to the trainees.

Mr Reddy explained that the institute had trained 3,600 job-seekers since 2006. Of the 1,307 eligible job-seekers, the IGIAT could secure employment to 1,048. He said in-service personnel too were being imparted training. The fees, he said, was only nominal for the three-month course _ Rs 1,900.

He said the State Government had provided 5 acres of land in the industrial estate for setting up the institute and also Rs 4 crore for infrastructure, whereas the Government of Germany gave equipment and machinery worth Rs 16 crore for it.

The Gayatri Vidya Parishad, managing the institute, had also contributed Rs 2.5 crore for the project.

He said the IGIAT had drawn up a plan for a new mini tool room, for which the State Government had sanctioned Rs 1 crore and “the Union Government is likely to sanction Rs 7.5 crore.”

The MTR would be useful in imparting training to students in precision manufacturing equipment used in aviation and automobile industry, he added.
