Chennai, April 24 The Chennai-based Rattha Group has announced plans to set up a Rs 1,750-crore IT SEZ in Chennai.

The group with interests in garment exports, infrastructure and hospitality industries, focuses on constructing infrastructure facilities, particularly for the IT industry.

Mr H.S. Rattha, Chairman, Rattha Group, told presspersons today that the 26-acre IT SEZ of over 4.5 million sq ft is to come up at Porur, a western suburb of Chennai. The facility, Estra IT SEZ, is located within Chennai.

The project would generate over 50,000 jobs and comes equipped with a 100-room service hotel. The first phase of 1.1 million sq ft would be completed by December 2009 and the project would be fully completed by 2012, he said.

Mr C. Velan, Chief Executive Officer, Infrastructure Division, said the Estra IT SEZ would offer a fully integrated business environment with lifestyle amenities, 24-hour power backup and commercial space with restaurants, retail outlets, car park for 15,000 cars and a service hotel.

Its location offers the advantage of cutting down on travel cost and time for the employees, as compared to other SEZs located well outside the city, Mr Velan said.
