Hyderabad, April 24 Oracle India and Institute of Electronic Governance (IEG) have entered into a memorandum of understanding to introduce Oracle academy business and technical curriculum across 342 engineering colleges in Andhra Pradesh.

The Oracle Academy programme will be offered to more than 50,000 students over a two-year period through over 650 Jawahar Knowledge Centres (JKCs). Apart from industry relevant curriculum, students gain vital business and technology skills.

With this, students here join more than one lakh students from over 900 education institutions in the Asia-Pacific region who have benefited from the Oracle Academy learning initiatives.

Addressing a press conference, the Managing Director of Oracle India, Mr Krishan Dhawan, said, “India is an important location for Oracle and we were among the first MNCs to establish base in the country. This move is part of Oracle’s effort to reach out through its expertise.”

The Chief Executive Officer of IEG, Mr Amarnath Reddy Atmakuri, said the Government initiative to hone skills of engineering graduates through JKCs has gradually turned into a skill bridge process, making students employable.

Some nine States are in touch with IEG to replicate JKCs, Mr Reddy said.

“What started with about 43 centres has grown to 68 and has witnessed a ten-fold increase in the total number of centres which is nearing 700. We plan to actually cover all the engineering colleges in the State. However, in the near term, we expect to add about 200-300 more centres,” Mr Reddy said.

As a part of this initiative, Oracle will provide free software worth about Rs 5,000 crore and impart training to students and also trainees. Some of them may also secure internships.

Mr Dhawan said that Oracle as a company in India has significantly expanded its footprint both directly and through several acquisitions that the company made over the last three years in particular.
