Air Cargo States - Andhra Pradesh Crescent Air’s Vizag-Colombo cargo flight soon Our Bureau Visakhapatnam, April 24 A cargo flight is likely to be operated soon from here to Colombo, as Crescent Air Cargo Service Private Ltd is working out a tie-up with the Srilankan Airlines to move cargo on behalf of the latter. Brandix Apparels, producing undergarments at its temporary facility at Duvvada here, will be the main provider of cargo for the seven-tonne capacity Fokker aircraft. Sri Lankan Airlines, Crescent Air and Expo Freight, the logistic handler of Brandix, would be the partners in the deal, Crescent’s Assistant Manger (Commercial), Mr Mohammed Rafi, said. Initially, the flight would be operated twice a week. In the return journey, it would carry the raw material required for Brandix. As Brandix Apparel City goes operational at Atchyuthapuram in the special economic zone, the cargo is bound to increase. Kolkata flightsCrescent Air, the first exclusive freight carrier, which commenced operations in February, has also increased its flights to Kolkata to four days a week from thrice a week. As the airlines provides cheaper freight rate of Rs 60 a kg when compared to Rs 80 levied by the passenger aircraft, there is a good demand. “We are now achieving the operational break-even as the flights are going nearly full,” said Mr Rafi.
