New Products & Services Web Extras - Strategy Sabols to expand product range, market reach L.N. Revathy Coimbatore, April 24 After having a strong presence in the packaged drinking water business, Sabols is now set to expand its product range. The company recently introduced a mango drink. Close on the heels of this launch, Sabols is now planning to roll out two more fruit juices, orange and pineapple, and a carbonated-drink ‘Sprint’.The fruit juices are expected to be launched in July and Sprint by end-June. “We are also in the process of short-listing food products,” Mr Babji Mokada, Director, Sabols Foods India Pvt Ltd, told Business Line. Market expansionThe company has in line with the product expansion plan tried to reach out to a wider market. “We have so far expanded water plants to 15 in the South. We have now signed for water plants in Andhra Pradesh at Hyderabad and Vijayawada. We are in discussion with franchisees for foraying into Goa and Maharashtra,” Mr Rajesh Sharma, Director, Sabols Foods said. The Vijayawada plant is expected to become functional by August, while the Hyderabad plant by December. “We are negotiating for establishing a plant in Vizag too. We acquired a plant in Hubli in January and revamped it,” Mr Sharma said. The production capacity of the existing water plants is 10,000 litres a hour. The company, which clocked a turnover of Rs 12 crore last year, is aiming to triple it in the current fiscal to Rs 30-35 crore. Mr Mokada said the company was also exploring avenues to introduce tea, cookies and biscuit and health-food mix. “Foray into such ventures is still in a conceptual stage. The product development team is working aggressively to launch at least four new products by the end of the year. We are looking at technology transfer from MNCs and others.” “We plan to invest Rs 25 crore this year and a good chunk of this would go towards product development and operationalising the plants,” he said. According to Mr Sharma, Sabols market share in the packaged drinking water space was 25 per cent in Tamil Nadu alone and this was increasing rapidly.
