Packed paddy being loaded into a truck as part of marketing initiatives in Alappuzha. The advent of regulated markets in the country has helped in mitigating the market handicaps of producers/sellers at the wholesale assembling level and the organised marketing of agricultural commodities has been promoted through a network of regulated markets. As on 31 March 2006, the country had 7,566 regulated markets and 2,1780 rural periodical markets, according to the Annual Reports of Government of India.
