Our Bureau

Hyderabad, April 27 A major blast occurred in the plant of Siris India Ltd, a Hyderabad-based sick pharmaceutical company at L.B. Nagar, here on Sunday evening. According to police, fire engulfed the factory, which has not been in operation for a few years, following explosions in some chemical reactors. Two persons were dead and over a dozen were injured in the mishap, they added.

The exact causes of the blasts are not known yet. Siris, a medium-sized pharmaceutical company manufacturing bulk drugs, formulations and animal health products, turned a sick unit and ceased operations for the least three years.

The injured have been shifted to the Osmania General Hospital and Kamineni Hospitals. Additional fire-tenders were being rushed to the factory and rescue operations are on. The police are investigating the reasons for blast in the non-operational factory including the possibility of illegal manufacturing.
