‘Pvt sector can help manage Govt hospitals’

Our Bureau

Mangalore, April 28 Private participation in managing government hospitals is possible, provided private hospitals are given some sort of freedom to run them, according to Mr N. Vinay Hegde, President of Nitte Education Trust (NET).

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, he said NET (which runs a medical college and hospital) is keen to manage some of the primary health centres (PHCs) in the area.

“But some sort of freedom should be offered to us to work,” he said.

Though K.S. Hegde Hospital of NET has such arrangement with a PHC, there should be better cooperation from the Government side, he said.

The K.S. Hegde Hospital has 17 satellite hospitals in various parts of coastal Karnataka.

Mr Hegde said that the super specialty block of K.S. Hegde Hospital at Deralakatte village in Mangalore taluk will be inaugurated on April 29.
