Higher sales take Gujarat Alkalies net up

Ahmedabad, April 30 Public sector Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Ltd (GACL) today announced having achieved the highest-ever net external sales (excluding excise duty) of Rs 1,133.63 crore for the year ended March 31, 2008, against Rs 1,044.84 crore in the previous year, registering an increase of 8.50 per cent as the PAT went up by 20 per cent.

After the board’ meeting, the Managing Director, Mr Guruprasad Mohapatra, said the net sales increased mainly due to the increased volume and aggressive marketing efforts, despite lower realisation of caustic soda group products. The total income (including excise duty) increased to Rs 1,392.13 crore as against Rs 1,255.62 crore .

He said that the board has recommended dividend of 35 per cent. The company generated cash profit of Rs 373.51 crore as against Rs 361.07 crore in the previous year whereas profit before tax for the year was Rs 275.51 crore as compared to Rs 273.49 crore in the previous year.

The profit after tax of Rs 224.08 crore is the highest-ever for the year (Rs 186.56 crore), an increase of 20.11 per cent, as also the EPS at Rs 30.51( Rs 25.40).
