‘Kudumbasree’ draws up schemes worth Rs 191 cr

Thiruvananthapuram, April 30

The Kerala Government-sponsored ‘Kudumbasree’ Mission has drawn up schemes worth Rs 191 crore as part of its tenth anniversary celebrations.

The mission has formulated a new programme called ‘Samagra’ for implementing the schemes in the coming years. It aims at creating a comprehensive production and marketing network for an agricultural product in each of the 14 districts in the State.

The produces being covered under the ‘Samagra’ programme include plantains, milk, pineapple, honey, mushrooms, medicinal plants, cashew, chips and squash.

The Minister for Local Administration, Mr Paloli Mohammed Kutty, said here on Wednesday that apart from the ‘Samagra’ programme, various other projects to make the State self-reliant in the production of milk, egg and vegetables would be taken up in coordination with the Food and Agriculture departments.

The programme would also support the ‘Clean Kerala’ mission.

The Minister said that the ‘Kudumbasree’ movement, launched by the E.K. Nayanar Government in 1998, had built up a strong base of 36 lakh families.

Now the scope of the movement would be widened with the special focus on the economic development of Scheduled castes, Tribes and the below-the-poverty line (BPL) sections.
