Our Bureau

Mangalore, April 30 The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has said that it will stage a walkathon on national highway No.17 in Mangalore on May 9 to draw the attention of the authorities concerned on the condition of roads.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr K. Narasimha Prabhu, KCCI President, said that the pace of the work on the conversion of 37.5 km stretch of road on NH 17 and NH 48 needs to be improved.

As monsoon is hardly a month away, the speed of the work should be improved to avoid inconvenience to the people of the region.

Quoting a communiqué to KCCI by the project director of National Highways Authority of India, he said the project has achieved a progress of 22 per cent so far. Of the 37.5 km, asphalting has been completed on 8 km stretch. Mr Prabhu said that KCCI would also submit a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of the district seeking early completion of the project. Mr Srinivas S. Kamath, Vice-President of KCCI, was present on the occasion.
