Australian State looks for closer commercial ties

Phalguna Jandhyala

Hyderabad, April 30 The Victorian State Government in Australia is looking for stronger commercial relationships with India and in particular with Andhra Pradesh.

“We are looking at accelerating the engagement with Indian Government.

“We are ready to extend our support in the areas of health, IT and associated industries, construction and urban design and water purification technology,” Mr Theo Theophanous, Minister for Industry and Trade, Information & Communication Technology and Major Ports, Victoria, told Business Line here today.

The Minister was on a visit to the city to cement an agreement between the Victorian Government and Satyam for a new facility at the Deakin University in Geelong, a satellite city just outside Melbourne.

“The industry is absorbing a lot of investments from abroad through joint ventures.

“We now have a number of big IT companies like Infosys, iGate, TCS, Wipro among others in the State,” he said.

Mr Theophanous also said that they want to develop relationships not just in the IT sector with the State but also in areas like health services, immunisation, accreditation of hospitals, vaccine development stem cell research and cancer research.
