Rlys rolls back hike for domestic movement of iron ore

Our Bureau

New Delhi, May 1 The Indian Railways has rolled back the 5.4-5.8 per cent increase in freight rate it had imposed on domestic iron ore traffic a month ago. However, the decision is valid only for three months (that is, from May 1 to July 30), after which it will be reviewed. So, for moving one tonne of iron ore over a 500-km distance, the basic tariff would now become Rs 523.90 instead of Rs 554.80. This base tariff would continue to attract various top-up charges such as busy season surcharge of 7 per cent, congestion surcharge (30 per cent) and development charge ( two per cent).
