Green Homes rating system launched

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, May 2 The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) on Friday launched the IGBC-Green Homes rating system at CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre here.

The IGBC-Green Home rating system is the first ecological rating programme developed in the country exclusively for the residential sector, and addresses national priorities such as conservation of natural resources, infrastructure, water and energy efficiency, handling of domestic waste, health and well being of the occupants.

“The rating system is being put in place to ensure that the residential sector in India contributes towards optimal use of natural resources and results in water savings to the tune of 30 to 50 per cent, energy savings to the tune of 20 to 30 per cent, excellent day lighting, enhanced ventilation, effective waste management among others,” a release issued here said.

“It is critical for the health and well being of every individual to adopt green measures in their homes because we spend longer hours at home than we spend elsewhere. Hence this rating system would do a great service to us,” Dr Prem C. Jain, Chairman of Indian Green Building Council said after the launch of the rating system.

Fifty pilot projects with a built-up area of more than 47 million sq ft were signed for the rating system.
