Spot rubber turns weak

Kottayam, May 3 Physical rubber prices turned weak on Saturday. Sheet rubber RSS 4 moved down to Rs 116 from Rs 116.50 and Rs 117 a kg respectively at Kottayam and Kochi. The rubber futures ended on a positive note on NMCE. The May contract improved to Rs 117.30 (116.23), June to Rs 115.10 (113.64), July to Rs 111.01 (110.17) and August to Rs 108.10 (107.47) per kg for RSS 4. The open interest stood at 4,368 (4,210) tonnes. The open positions were 1,862 (1,870) tonnes in May, 1,518 (1,428) tonnes in June, 708 (661) tonnes in July and 280 (251) tonnes in August.

Spot prices were (Rs/kg): RSS-4: 116 (116.50); RSS-5: 114 (114.50); ungraded: 112 (112.50); ISNR 20: 113 (113.50) and latex 60 per cent: 78.50 (78.50).
