Economy ‘New index to give better estimates of industrial output’ Our Bureau New Delhi, May 4 The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry said the Government’s proposed move to include additional items in the new Index of Industrial Production (IIP) would help in gauging a more accurate picture of the country’s industrial production. Citing an example of the Government data showing a slowdown in the consumer durables, the Chamber said, “Many high-end products like TVs, DVDs, MP3s, split air-conditioners, high-end washing machines and microwave ovens — which have shown excellent growth rates for quite sometime — did not find place in the list of items covered by the Central Statistical Organization for calculating official data.
