CII to set up a CSR task force

Our Bureau

New Delhi, May 5 The Confederation of Indian Industry is planning to set up a centre that will offer consultancy services to companies to help them engage the community in their business. The principal sponsor of the centre is the TVS Group, headed by Mr Venu Srinivasan, currently the Vice-President of CII.

The chamber has already started discussions with various companies to help them involve themselves according to local requirements of the region in which they are located.

“Many of the Indian companies are adopting standards like SA 8000 — an international social accounting standard to measure a company’s compliance to labour, environment and ethical standards.

“But there is no index to gauge the actual impact of corporate social responsibility initiatives undertaken by companies towards human development in the area of their operations. So we are working out tools to measure such activity,” said Ms Shefali Chaturvedi, Head Social Development Initiatives, CII, at a summit organised by the organisation.
