Lint prices firm, arrivals dip

Coimbatore, May 5

Cotton lint prices during the fortnight ended April 30, displayed firm trend with no sign of prices coming down. The overall daily arrivals of cotton in all the markets in different States had fallen to 35,000 bales, according to the South India Cotton Association’s fortnightly market report. The report said that the seeded cotton arrivals in the North have come to less than 1,000 bales a day. The total cotton that arrived in this year’s season so far (as on Ap ril 26, 2008) was 293 lakh bales against 250.50 lakh bales in 2006-07 season. Following were the prices of cotton that prevailed during the fortnight: Bengal Deshi Rs 4,554-Rs 4,688 (a quintal); J-34 Rs 5,492-Rs 5,759; Shankar-6 Rs 6,271-Rs 6,468; Mech-1/H-4 Rs 6,130-Rs 6,327; MCU-5 Rs 6,411-Rs 6,608 and DCH-32 Rs 8,998.
