2-day rubber meet to discuss development

Kottayam, May 5 The Golden Jubilee of the Rubber Board’s extension and development schemes will conclude with a two-day international conference on “Natural rubber extension and development” during May 8-9 at Kochi.

Mr Vayalar Ravi, Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs, will inaugurate the conference. Mr Sebastian Paul, MP, will preside. Mr Mullakkara Rathnakaran will launch the logo for Indian Natural Rubber.

The “Award for Excellence in Extension” will be presented to Mr P Mukundan Menon, former Rubber Production Commissioner ( RPC).

Around 600 delegates from different parts of the country and abroad will attend the conference.

Dr A.K Krishna Kumar, RPC on deputation, will deliver the keynote address. On the concluding day, renowned agricultural scientists, Dr M.S.Swaminathan, will make a presentation on “Agricultural extension - the way forward” .

Mr G.K. Pillai, Union Commerce Secretary, will present the “Best natural rubber Exporter Award” to the Palai Rubber Marketing Society. A book compiled by Mr K.G. Sathees Kumar will be released on the occasion.
