Kerala may revoke ATF tax relief

Thiruvananthapuram, May 5

The Kerala Government is seriously considering the withdrawal of tax relief given to aviation fuel in the budget for the current year. The tax on the aviation fuel had been steeply reduced from 26 per cent to four per cent and the Finance Minister, Dr Thomas Isaac, had said in his budget speech that the Government expected the airlines to pass on the relief to the customers. Dr Isaac said here on Monday that the airlines not only did not bring down the fares as expected, but some airlines even increased the fares. In the circumstances, the Government was considering withdrawal of the relief and restore the rate to the previous level, he said. - Our Bureau
