Bharti Airtel adds open interest positions amid falling price

Chennai, May 5 Volumes remained depressed around Rs 32,856.62 crore in the F&O segment on the NSE against Monday’s figure of Rs 32,972.85 crore.

Nifty May future weak at 5162.95 against the spot close of 5144.65. It added about 2.2 per cent or 6.7 lakh shares in open interest positions.

Among the options, Nifty 5000 put and Nifty 5200 call remained active. Both saw a moderate accumulation in open interest positions. This indicates that the Nifty might confine into this range.

Stock futures

Among individual stock futures, Reliance Industries was the most active. The other active counters include Reliance Petroleum, Tata Steel, Reliance Capital, DLF, RNRL, Bharti Airtel, Essar Oil, Reliance Energy and HDIL.

Among them Bharti Airtel and HDIL saw strong accumulation in open interest. Bharti Airtel May future added about 10 per cent in open interest positions, but closed weak by 5 per cent at Rs 852.65 against the spot close of Rs 846.35.

HDIL May future witnessed an accumulation of 13.5 per cent in open interest positions and closed weak by 6 per cent at Rs 786.55 against the spot price close of Rs 781.10.

However, Essar Oil, which saw sharp accumulation on Monday, shed 5.2 per cent or 2.72 lakh shares in open interest. The Essar Oil May future closed at Rs 285.9 with respect to its spot price close of Rs 285.20.

FIIs sellers

Overseas investors turned net sellers in the F&O segment on the NSE, according to the provisional data provided by the exchange. They were net sellers to the tune of Rs 262.81 crore mainly on account of their net selling in index futures (by Rs 289 crore) and stock future (Rs 281 crore). They were, however, remained net buyers of Rs 243 crore on index options and Rs 64.11 crore on stock options.
