ACC April dispatches fall marginally

Our Bureau

Mumbai, May 6 Cement major ACC has reported a marginal fall of 0.57 per cent in dispatches at 1.73 million tonnes (mt) in April against 1.74 mt recorded in the same period last year.

Production was up 1.13 per cent at 1.79 (mt) against 1.77 mt logged in the same period last year. “Inventory built up at the dealers’ end and slowdown in the realty sector has led to fall in dispatches. Moreover, April is traditionally considered a lacklustre month as far as real estate activities is concerned,” said an analyst. Export ban by the Government will increase supply in a few regions which may lead to a drop in prices, he added.

Between January and April, ACC dispatches rose 5.08 per cent to 7.02 mt (6.68 mt), while production was up at 7.03 mt (6.69 mt).

Dispatches by Ambuja Cements move up a tad by 0.60 per cent at 1.48 mt (1.47 mt) and production grew 0.68 per cent to 1.48 mt (1.47 mt) in April.

On a cumulative basis, dispatches were up 7 per cent at 6.22 mt (5.79 mt) and production jumped 8 per cent to 6.24 mt (5.78 mt) between January and April.

The Aditya Birla Group, with brands Ultratech and Grasim, showed a growth of 2.17 per cent and 2.24 per cent in production and dispatches for April at 2.74 mt (2.68 mt) and 2.71 mt (2.65 mt), respectively.
