Asahi India posts Rs 9.7-cr Q4 net loss

New Delhi, May 6 Asahi India Glass Ltd reported a net loss of Rs 9.7 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2008, against Rs 8.94 crore profit in the same period last year. The company’s net sales rose 14.29 per cent to Rs 263.02 crore, compared with Rs 230.12 crore in the previous fiscal.

The company’s stand alone net profit for the entire year plummeted 68 per cent at Rs 13.3 crore, from Rs 42.8 crore a year ago. Net sales, however, increased 30.4 per cent to Rs 993.53 crore as against Rs 761.84 crore last year.

“The rising input costs of power and fuel, soda ash continued to have an impact on operations and resultant profitability of AIS. Significant emphasis in 2008-09 will be on value added products having better margins,” said Mr Sanjay Labroo, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, AIS, in a statement.
