New Products & Services MSD launches diabetics drug Hyderabad, May 7 MSD Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Merck & Co Inc, launched `Januvia', an oral drug for Type II diabetes here on Wednesday. The drug (Sitagliptin) is first in the class of drugs known as Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors which enhance the body's own ability to lower blood sugar when it is elevated, Dr Naveen Rao, Managing Director, MSD Pharmaceuticals, told newspersons here on Wednesday. The drug is now being sold in 60 cities across the country at a price of Rs 42.80 a tablet. MSD Pharmaceuticals would be ramping up its operations in India by doubling its number of employees to 800 from the current 400 by the year-end, he added. - Our Bureau
