Yahoo! India unveils Glue Pages

Our Bureau

Bangalore, May 8

Yahoo! India has launched Glue Pages Beta – a new concept in online search that promises to make the search experience more “enriching and compelling.”

Glue Pages Beta, which is being test marketed in India, collects and integrates text, images, video content and other information relevant to the search query from across the Web – onto a single page, side by side.

Search experience

Glue Pages, which is available exclusively at www.yahoo.in, is expected to make the search experience better, faster and compelling. While a classical search lists several Web links in an ‘algorithmic’ fashion, the new concept uses intuitive technology to identify the most relevant information and display results that includes a combination of text, facts, images and videos.

For instance, a search query on `Aishwarya Rai' not only displays the classical results (Web links) on the left side of the page, but also throws up other relevant data such as videos, music tracks, photos and biographical quick-facts - in a quick overview, "at a glance." This concept "integrates the best of info in a visually appealing manner," said Mr Gopal Krishna, Head of Audience, Yahoo! India.

Glue Pages Beta is the result of the collaborative effort of Yahoo! India and Sunnyvale. This concept is part of Yahoo's "increasing commitment towards India and local innovations," said Mr Krishna.

Indian market

Mr Tapan Bhat, Senior Vice-President, Front doors, Yahoo! Inc, said: "We are currently testing the product in the Indian market as India is a huge market for Yahoo!, and there is strong search relevance here. About 25 per cent of Indian users are touching on Yahoo! search today. There is also a large group of developers here in India."

Glue Pages also allows users to create a Glue Page if there isn't one already available on the topic and also add info, images etc online. Currently, this access is restricted to an authorised select pool of experts alone.
