Tax concessions welcomed

Madurai, May 8

The Sattur Chamber of Commerce and Industries has welcomed the recent announcement of tax concessions by the Union Ministry of Finance to the tune of Rs 1,500 crore. In a letter to Union Finance Minister, the chamber Secretary, Mr P.T.K.A. Balasubramanian, thanking him for measures taken to control inflation, said that the exemption from import tax of steel used for house construction and levy of 15% export tax on certain items of steel will help control the rise in the pr ices of steel. A similar step has been taken with respect to the import and export of basmati rice. —
